The New York Jets have ruled cornerback Darrelle Revis, who suffered a concussion in the team's season opener, out for Sunday's game at Pittsburgh.

Coach Rex Ryan said Friday that the team is following league protocol on Revis, who has been cleared only for non-contact practice.

Revis commented Thursday for the first time since suffering the injury -- he got kicked in the back of the head by teammate Bart Scott -- in a 48-28 over the Bills last Sunday, saying "Whatever they say, goes."

"I'd try to be out there with a broken leg. I'm sure they know that as well," Revis said. "It's a competitive spirit in me that wants to go out and play. If I feel fine, which I do, we'll go from there."

According to the NFL, a player with a concussion must be cleared by the team doctor and an independent neurologist before he can return to practice or play in a game.

Meanwhile, the Jets (1-0) also ruled out linebacker Bryan Thomas (hamstring), tight end Dustin Keller (hamstring) and guard Dennis Landolt (knee). Cornerback Isaiah Trufant (ankle) and fullback John Conner (knee) are questionable.

To fill in for Keller, the Jets signed tight end Dedrick Epps.

Information from ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini was used in this report.
